Spring to most of us is a time we plant our gardens, look around our house, clean our closets and do all those minor home repairs that we've been putting off through the winter months. Those are all fine things and St. Andrew's Senior Solutions helps seniors with those tasks as well.

When I think of spring and the people I get to interact with on a daily basis, I think of relationships. I thikn of how we can renew, refresh, and nurture relationships. It's a time to stop, think about our older relatives, whether it's our mom, dad or favroite aunt and recognize the fact that we do age and are getting older.

Think about what they will want. Will they always want to stay in their home? Will they want to live with other seniors in a congregant setting? Are their papers in order? Do they have a durable power of attorney and will you be able to help her if something happens.

Now is the time to plant those seeds and grow the garden of our relationships. Start thinking about how we can have some of these difficult and courageous conversations with Mom and Dad so that we can talk, plan ahead and avoide crisis situations. Mom and Dad can have their wishes carried out by you and you will have the gift of being able to carry out their wishes.

This is what I think spring is all about - nurturing relationships. While we don't want to face the fact that our loved one may one day will no longer be with us, let's plant new seeds and nurture our relationships, and grow it to one that is stronger than it has ever been so we will take all the loving memories of them with us through our lifetime.
