In addition to the state sponsored Guelaguetza, many of the towns around the city of Oaxaca and around the state, have their own Guelaguetza. This clip was taken in Mitla and shows one of the iconic dance of the Zapotecs, the Danza de La Pluma, or the Dance of the Feathers. The full dance, which narrates the story of Montezuma and Cortez, takes nearly a day to perform. For a Guelaguetza, which features 16 different regional dances, only a secton of the full dance is performed.
