Dr. Harold Lancer visited CBS’ The Doctors July 28, 2009 to discuss how to effectively treat stretch marks. Stretch marks, or striae, occur when the body is overstretched, and may resemble a scar ranging in length and coloration (white, red, brown, and black). Taking into account ethnicity, skin elasticity, and where the stretch marks appear, Dr. Lancer recommends using a form of retinol once or twice daily for 30 days to help improve the appearance of stretch marks. Once this is done, you may want to look into laser treatment in order to remove the scars—as long as you are with a dermatologist you trust.
