There is certainly evidence that #depression can run in families. And your family history of depression would most likely be something that your psychiatrist or psychologist would want to know.

However, as I point out in this video, a Social Security disability judge will not award your disability benefits based on someone else’s medical history or problems. The judge in your case will want to know about your experiences struggling with symptoms of depression and how your symptoms and #medicationsideeffects prevent you from performing a simple, entry-level job.

Your family history of depression can provide some context to the judge and allow him or her to better understand you.
