Performed by Baba Marimba (track 10 on our new CD Tangos de los Muertos). Zendekaiwa is by Dumisani Maraire (1944, 1999). Dumi brought the music of Zimbabwe to America when he came to study and then teach at the University of Washington in 1968. Dumi translated the old karimba songs to the "modern" marimbas. The marimba band movement in the western United States, in which traditional Zimbabwean songs were played on marimbas, is a result of Dumi's work.
Zendekaiwa means "What's going on at your mother-in-law's house?"
