PETA Asia's undercover investigation reveals that dogs are bludgeoned and killed so that their skin can be turned into leather gloves, belts, jacket collar trim, cat toys, and other accessories. The never-before-seen footage shows slaughterhouse workers grabbing one terrified, yelping dog after another with metal pinchers before bashing them over the head with a wooden pole, rendering some unconscious but leaving others to writhe in agony with severe head trauma. Workers cut the animals' throats and drain their blood before throwing their bodies onto a pile, where some of the dogs still struggle to breathe.
Most of the world's leather comes from China, where there are no penalties for abusing animals killed for their skins.
Products made from dog leather are exported throughout the world to be sold to unsuspecting customers.
