A few tips on body language to help you close more sales

Commonly, new sales reps make the mistake of having improper body language. Improper body language can cost you sales.
Proper eye contact is one key to good body language
One area you should focus on with your body language is your eye contact. Your eye contact can either build trust rapidly with your potential customer or it can hurt your trust and credibility if you do it incorrectly.
There is a subtle difference between maintaining good eye contact and boring a hole into someone with your eyes. It’s best to just look in the eyes for a few seconds and then look at something else and then look back at the person. If you maintain eye contact too long, it can make your prospect very uncomfortable and you can come off as intimidating or crazy.
The opposite end of the spectrum is not giving any eye contact which will result in negative outcomes of your sales presentation. When you don’t give any eye contact it makes you come off as having little belief in what you are selling, you are lacking confidence, or even worse that you are trying to hide something. Proper eye contact can be hard if you are new to sales, but it is something you should work on.
Maintaining a friendly facial expression is another aspect of body language that can help you close more sales
Another issue that a lot of s ales reps encounter is being thrown off of their game whenever a potential customer has an objection or says something they have never heard before. The usual reaction of the sales rep is to go from smiling and upbeat to a look of concern or fear. This reaction can kill your chances of making a sale.
You really need to have your best friendly poker face at all times. Even if your prospect says the most outlandish and ridiculous statements be sure not to show it though your facial expression. The more you are calm and collected the more you come across as a professional.
If your facial expressions are all over the place whenever your prospect has a question or says something negative, you show a lack of confidence in the quality of your products and service and lack of belief in what you are selling. Smiling and having a friendly facial expression as part of good body language will help put your prospect at ease and help you close more sales.
Head nodding and hand movement is also something you need to focus on in your body language
As you are talking with your prospects, proper hand gestures and head nodding are also very beneficial towards helping you close more sales. Head nodding is pretty simple, you just nod the way you want your prospect to feel.
For example, if you were asking a closing question about your prospect buying your product you would be nodding your head “yes”. Whereas, if you were talking about how other companies products or services are inferior you would shake your head “no”.
Hand movements can be used to direct your prospect to specific things as you are going through your sales pitch and value building. One example would be as you are name dropping you can point towards the neighbors home you are talking about. If you are using visual aids you can point out specific things that can enhance your value build with your prospects.
The more you have your potential customers engaged with you and paying attention to you the more sales you will close. Body language may be subtle but it can have a large impact on if you make the sale or not.
