This is a video demonstration of the strategy used to get the best score for Growlithe. There is a bit of luck involved in getting 3 Growlithes out of the lava pits, but you only really need 2 of them to get 5200+ for a score.

It is important start shooting pester balls over the wall to try and knock out the Growlithe as early as possible, otherwise it will take a lot more braking. Once you get 2 or 3 of them out, try to lure them toward the edge and as near to you as possible. I always throw an apple just short of the ledge to get them running against the edge and as close as possible.

Then you need to toss a pester ball just short of the main Gowlithe that you want to get in the center of the picture. You don't want to hit him directly with the pester ball. Just make sure that you throw it short of him just so that the pester residue hits the Growlithe in the face and he shakes it off. By doing this, you can still get the "shaking embers" pose worth 1300. The strategy is actually pretty simple once you know what to do. The hard part is getting the Growlithes to fit in the frame as best you can. Try to focus mainly on getting a 900-1000 main Growlithe and hope the background works out well.

There are many different techniques to get them in the frame well, but it takes a lot of timing and good fortune to have it work out perfectly.
