Toussaint L'ouverture was a Master Mason and opened his own lodge in Haiti by gathering a small group of men who was seeking higher wisdom. Since he wasn't part of the European Order because of racism at the time, his lodge was not recognized and he preferred it that way for he knew many of the truths would be kept from him because of his pigmentation. His brand of Masonry was the ancient brand that was taught to him by his elders and he read a lot of books to expand his knowledge about the rest of the world, particularly French and Egyptian philosophy which led him to Greek and Chinese philosophers like Aristotle and Confucious. His original name was Francois Dominique Breda and after he reached the highest degree in Masonry, he was given his new name after mastering his craft. Not only because he mastered military campaigns, but because he had absolute control of his mind and build his character and set it as the standard for those amongst him which made him a great leader. A man's humanity is measured by his righeous deeds and just intentions, not by posessions obtained in the material world. True Masonry!!!
