Many successful albums followed: Je suis un chanteur (I Am a Singer) in 1982, and Tu mas fait mal (You hurt me) in 1983. Nonetheless, a few years were needed to find a true personal musical direction.

In 1988, Mario surrounded himself with a strong team to set his upcoming success. His self-titled album earned him a Gold Record and, within less than a week, another followed for his 1990 release Couleur Passion (The Color of Passion). That same year, ADISQ (Quebecs equivalent of the Grammys) awarded him its Male Singer of The Year award. In 1992, Mario joined Sony Music Canada and recorded a defining album, Pelchat. Featuring his famous duet with top Canadian star Céline Dion, the album earned a Double Platinum recognition as well as Album of The Year award at ADISQ. Not long after, Cest la vie, released in 1995, was certified Gold. His worldwide tours, from Canada to the Middle East, were to be praised and recognized.

In 1998, Mario is invited to audition for a musical based on the life of the great Picasso. Staged by Robert Hossein, Mario gets the leading role in this production, which was presented in Monaco and Paris the same year.

After starting is own successful label MP3 Disques, his release entitled VII was certified Gold and received a Record of the Year award. Wherever it stops, the tour supporting the album advertises sold out.

He then embarks in one of Quebecs great musical success stories by landing the role of Quasimodo in Notre Dame de Paris. The musical will be presented all over Canada, France, Belgium, Italy and Lebanon.

In 2002, Pelchat 2002 was released in commemoration of Marios success over the last 20 years. The album featured a duet with Maurane, famous Belgian singer. That same year, he again obtained two leading roles: The Ten Commandments, where he played Moses, and Don Carlos in Don Juan.

In 2006, Le monde où je vais is certified Gold and Les villes où je vais tour receives colossal success. In 2008, his manager Lionel Lavault hints the idea of revisiting 15 songs written by the great French singer-songwriter Michel Legrand. The idea came to life and Pelchat-Legrand was recorded with Michel Legrand himself. It also features a duet with the legendary Dionne Warwick. Preceded by a tour that covered Canada, Paris, Boston, Washington and New York, the opus was recently crowned by ADISQ as Jazz Interpret album of the Year.
