The fabled West Scotland Steam Train was in town today and I managed to film it passing below Soroba, a large housing estate just south of Oban. You can tell my neighbours' children were absolutely delighted -- choooo-choooo! :) Well, it only went about a mile out before it had to back into Oban again -- one engine is not strong enough for these gradients and for this long a train. As I type these lines three-and-a-half hours later, stranded passengers have been forced to "enjoy" the sights and facilities of Oban a bit longer than planned. Fortunately, it is a lovely, warm if windy day, with intermittent sunshine. Those on a hurry to get back to Glasgow will be taking the 4-carriage regular service train. But there are people who have dinner booked on the West Highland Train; they don't yet know when the extra steam engine will arrive. It would appear that it has to be brought in all the way from Fort William.
