Professor Howard explains how the original risk assessment of chemicals grossly underestimated chemical toxicity. As an example he talks about Bisphenol A, an endocrine disrupter, which leaches from every day products such as plastic feeding bottles. This adds to the risk of cancer. He talks about the limitations of modern toxicology and welcomes Europe's first chemical hazard assessment programme, known as REACH. He calls for an immediate precautionary reduction in the production of all chemicals.
