김정일[5](金正日, 1941년 2월 16일 ~ 2011년 12월 17일)은 조선민주주의인민공화국의 군인·정치인이었다. 조선민주주의인민공화국 국방위원회의 위원장이며 조선로동당의 총 비서였으며, 조선민주주의인민공화국의 제3, 4대 국가 수반 김일성과 독립운동가 겸 공산주의자 김정숙의 첫째 아들이었다.

金正日(朝鮮語:김정일,1941年2月16日-2011年12月17日[1])是朝­鲜民主主義人民共和國的第二代最高領導人[2],身兼朝鮮勞動黨總書記、朝鮮國防委員­會委員長、朝鮮勞動黨中央軍事委員會委員長及朝鮮人民軍最高司令官等職務,擁有共和國­元帥軍銜,是朝鮮建國領導人(全州金氏)金日成的兒子,母親是金正淑。Kim Jong-il, also written as Kim Jong Il, birth name Yuri Irsenovich Kim (according to Soviet records)(16 February 1941 (Soviet records) or 16 February 1942 (North Korean records) -- 17 December 2011), was the Supreme Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). He was the Chairman of the National Defence Commission, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, the ruling party since 1948, and the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, the fourth largest standing army in the world. In April 2009, North Korea's constitution was amended and now implicitly refers to him as the "Supreme Leader".[7] He was also referred to as the "Dear Leader", "our Father", "the General" and "Generalissimo".[8] His son Kim Jong-un was promoted to a senior position in the ruling Workers' Party and is heir apparent.[9] In 2010, he was ranked 31st in Forbes Magazine's List of The World's Most Powerful People.[10] The North Korean government announced his death on 19 December 2011Ким Чен Ир (кор. 김정일; по Концевичу, Ким Джонъиль, Юрий Ирсенович Ким; 16 февраля 1941 или 1942 — 17 декабря 2011[1]) — глава Корейской Народно-Демократической Республики, генеральный секретарь Трудовой партии Кореи, Верховный главнокомандующий Корейской народной армии (четвёртой по численности армии в мире), председатель Государственного Комитета обороны КНДР, сын «великого вождя» Ким Ир Сена.
