A viral dance challenge: I Love Local Business premieres just in time to spread love for Valentine’s Day www.ilovelocalbusiness.org. This inspiring video features small business owners in California’s 805, who were affected by recent disasters. The timing of the video release is significant, it comes on the heels of the one-year anniversary of the Montecito debris flows which devastated the community. This uplifting music video features Montecito Firefighters who spent days rescuing residents following unimaginable destruction paralyzing the community and leaving Highway 101 a river of mud. The heroic first responders are dancing to the custom song, “I Love Local Business in the 805.” The parody lyrics were written by Grammy and Academy award-winning songwriter Molly-Ann Leikin, from Santa Barbara. The catchy song is to the tune of local celebrity, Katy Perry’s California Girls. Viewers get a grand tour of local businesses across more than 120 miles from Santa Maria to the Conejo Valley. A very special cat in the video was rescued from recent fires. This music video is an out-of-the-box approach to revitalizing local businesses that experienced challenging times following the disasters. The campaign’s concept and design came from the Santa Barbara based marketing firm, Idea Engineering. The project includes displaying 10,000 “I Love Local Business” window decals. Regina Ruiz of Women’s Economic Ventures, who has been the chief organizer of the initiative says, “We’re not asking people to stop shopping online, but we are asking if some purchases can be made locally in support of our community. The answer for everyone is almost certainly yes.” Kay’s Coffee shop owner, Melinda Hambrick says, “Shopping at small, local businesses does much more than support your friend's or neighbor's business; it strengthens the entire community.”
The I Love Local Business committee challenges other communities to produce a “I Love Local Business” video showcasing small businesses. We first challenge the California communities of Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. Show the world how your local businesses shine!
