Humans have created numerous challenges for the Fifteenmile Creek steelhead, that are among the nation’s list of threatened species. Over the last 20 years, farmers have been digging high-powered wells along the creek to grow water-intensive crops.
Before humans altered the watershed, chances of egg survival would have been close to one in four. Last year, fewer than one in 50 steelhead eggs made it out alive.
This video shows the journey of three steelhead trying to make it home to spawn and the challenges they face along the way.
