Well, I decided to just do some random searching for an opponent online in meteos Wars on Thursday and I found an opponent, surprisingly enough. Meteos Wars online play activity jumped up a bunch over this week. Apparently, at least 11 matches have been played over the past 7 days, a big jump up from the 1 the previous week. The person I played against here was IxDarkStormxii. I remember seeing him on the leaderboard charts; I think I sent him a Friend Invitation but he turned me down.

Anyway, I wanted to use this planet in an online battle for a while now, as it's my favorite. Arod is a planet you probably haven't seen before, though you might not know that it's actually a returning planet. (Technically, it's not a planet--it's an asteroid cluster. Arod's name comes from "asteroid," not "Alex Rodriguez.") Arod first appeared in Meteos Online, a very obscure game for the PC and was actually the first Meteos game to be playable online. It didn't last long, however.

Arod has incredibly low gravity. This causes its inhabitants, which seem to resemble snakes (among other, less appropriate things), to be the most laid-back and lazy civilization in the galaxy. They're renowned for such an attitude and seem to take pride in it. Even in such a catastrophe as a Meteos storm, they take it in stride and patiently deal with them.

Arod has incredibly low gravity. This means that blocks arrive slowly, shoot up slowly, and fall back down slowly. This goes for garbage blocks too. That's not intense lag you're seeing there--Arod really does work like it's in slow motion. This can be a double-edged sword: It makes it very easy to remain alive and make chains, but Arod simply can't keep up with the pace of other planets, instead making do through gettig large amounts of points for everything it does and slowly filling up the garbage meter. Arod has a big disadvantage, however, in that it's very vulnerable to garbage blocks, often slamming every midair block you have down to the ground. You also can't just constantly use the Speeder. The Arods are a patient and relaxed people, and you must be patient and relaxed too. The Speeder speeds up blocks, but not by much; however, it practically slams mid-air clusters back to the ground, faster than the blocks can reach them. Thus, you should use the Speeder only when you don't have any clusters coming down.

Arod's Planet Impact is Gambit. Use it when you're pushing your clusters up off the top of the screen to turn a normal garbage block assault into a veritable avalanche.

My opponent is using a planet called Darthvega. I've since put up a video that features me using it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbWXlT...

Unfortunately, I lost this match. The lag makes it so that matches are rarely won by having the opponent's columns fill up, as they play out slower than they should. This puts Darthvega at an advantage, since Darthvega's main weakness (I'll get into that later too) is canceled out by the fact that matches run slower than they should. I observed my opponent later and found out that he was using the full cursor speed whereas I'm still using the default stuff. You'll see me switch to full-speed after I'm done with Mission Mode. I should be able to improve my game dramatically after that.

It's not a total waste though--by losing 1 online match, you get the Heart accessory.
