Beauty Is Suffering [Part 2 - The Musician]

Often missing from our understanding or enjoyment of music is a most important question; how did they do it?

The beauty we hear in music today, whether it be at a concert, or laying in our own bed, is largely a result of the thousands, if not millions of individuals outpouring that which cannot be put into words.

The common strand in much of what we listen to stems from a quintessential human quality; suffering.

With each passing note, we recreate feelings of love, lack of love, past memories and that which is yet to come, all the while simultaneously connecting with our vulnerability.

We are the beneficiaries of all those who decided to put their internal struggles to page. Many a musician, both dead and alive, endured and continue to endure one hardship or another in order for a brief few minutes, to elevate our everyday experience.

For better or for worse, it is you and I who receive the most beautiful aspect of their suffering.

Video: Immortal Beloved (1994)
Music: Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Concerto No. 5 (Op. 73) & Symphony No. 9 (Op. 125).
