Metro Transit Police have arrested two juveniles after a cell phone robbery led to a fight on Metro last Friday. The incident was captured on camera.
In this incident, the suspects call themselves the 44th Street Crew. The fight was filmed by one of the gang members.
The video, which was posted on Facebook, shows the coed group of members from Southeast D.C. intimidating several young girls on a Green Line Metro train.
The confrontation escalated out to the Fort Totten station platform. One of the girls whose phone was grabbed fought fiercely to get it back.
Metro says Transit Police were alerted by the Fort Totten station manager about the incident at around 11:27 p.m.
Metro Transit Police Deputy Chief Ron Pavlik says if passengers are confronted with this type of situation, they recommend giving up their property.
"There's nothing worth fighting over and getting assaulted for," says Pavlik.
"Be a good witness at that point," adds Pavlik. "Try to identify what the person looked like: any height, weight, clothing description. Did they flee the train? Did they remain on the train? You can contact the train operator. Another patron can call 911. There are a lot of ways to deal with that situation better."
