First day of France, we went to see the Mexican Giant, El Xolo, the dog and the Little Giant walking. It was quite awesome — I don't have a video of the dog though. I'm sure you can find it plenty of other places on YouTube. It was in Nantes and it is called Royale Deluxe. I'm too lazy to put the full descriiption of it so look it up on wikipedia for more info!
Actually, her roommate who's also in France wants to describe it more.
Being an American who has never visited France until now, I can't say all that much about the "cultural history" of such an event or what it means to France/Nantes, but I CAN say how cool it was.
These giant puppets move similar to any sort of robot, the difference being that it's completely done by hand — or full body, as you can see from those jumping Frenchmen that make the (male) giant's legs move.
Sadly, she didn't tape the cannons, which weren't especially interesting but still helped one get into the spirit of things. This years theme was, as Wikipedia says "The Mexican Giant, the dog Xolo and the Little Indian Girl."
Well, that's all I'll type for now, because French dinner is ready.
