While the national debate concerning illegal immigration draws a great deal of attention, the real need in the business community for smarter immigration policies that will positively impact economic development frequently goes unheard. At a special forum focusing on the topic, Richard Herman, author of "Immigrant, Inc." and a frequent speaker on this topic across the country gave a presentation on the economics of smarter immigration. He shared stories and facts about how immigrant entrepreneurs and investors help keep America competitive and discussed the limitations of the current U.S. immigration system.

Additionally, a panel of local business leaders talked about immigration and job creation in Oklahoma City.

• Chris Dashney, Director of Hockey Operations for Oklahoma City Barons and Manager at Express Sports Agency
• Blake Chisam, Director of Professional Practices and Government Relations for Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy LLP
• Stephen McKeever, Secretary of Science and Technology for the State of Oklahoma and Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at Oklahoma State University

Guests gained insight into an important, and often misunderstood business issue. Herman and the panelists covered topics including green cards for graduates with advanced degrees in STEM fields, improving the H-1B visa program and increasing the capacity to meet demand, creating a visa for entrepreneurs, and EB-5 Regional Centers under development.
