The E.ON Pelamis machine generating electricity in Orkney, April 2012.

An intrepid Pelamis team braved the rough waves of Orkney to record this footage, which shows a Pelamis wave energy converter owned by E.ON operating at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney. A couple of clips have been slowed down to show the motion of the machine through the waves.

The Pelamis is an offshore wave energy converter that uses the motion of waves to generate electricity through a hydraulic power take off system. This machine was bought by utility customer E.ON and is part-way through a testing programme in Orkney. For more information about this project, see:
