Viviane Reding, Vice-president of the European Commission and commissioner responsible for justice fundamental rights and citizenship shares why she is RISING on 14 February 2013. "Women should not have to suffer from violence simply because they are women", the Vice-president says in her video message. "You can count on me to take action in order to combat violence against women in all its forms, and you can count on me to keep pressing this message as long as it is necessary."

She first announced that she will join One Billion Rising on 4 February 2013, in her statement in the European Parliament Plenary session debate on violence against women on 4 February 2013 (watch it here: http://youtu.be/7RRrjIZUx_0)
