Above, Alex Helwig, Chairman of the Rules Committee who made the motion to remove the chair. He was arrested by Shreveport police and released. This at the direction of Santorum people who wanted their own national figures, such as Tony Perkins, named as delegates to Tampa.
During his brief detainment, some of his fingers were broken and when he returned to the event he was walking with aid of a cane.
According to one report, the Santorum organizers, behind the scenes, knowing that they would be outnumbered by elected Ron Paul delegates at GOP Louisiana convention, hired the off duty police to arrest and detain the Ron Paul supporters.
Also see, Central Committeeman and Ron Paul supporter Henry Herford Jr. of Franklin Parrish attacked by the same off duty security officials who didn't realize or care that the convention had just voted out the previous chairman. They took their orders from the Santorum people who had hired them.
Mr. Herford has a prosthetic hip and according to a doctor at the scene it appears as though the prosthetic was dislocated and may require replacement. The injury occurred as he was beginning to call to order the newly re-formed convention.
The Santorum group, among other things, wanted to make sure that national Family Research Council leader, Tony Perkins, was selected as a delegate to Tampa. Santorum people said that the Ron Paul people had "stolen" the delegation and that it was Santorum's since he had won the Primary vote.
Ron Paul supporters insisted that they had a right to participate in caucus meetings and had followed all GOP Party rules, that they were not required to vote for national figures, such as Tony Perkins, who had not even attended or been part of precinct, country and district level conventions where the duly elected delegates to the state were chosen.
