Beam is a juvenile sea turtle rescued by Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, FL. He was brought in after being hit by a boat, which caused damaged to his carapace (shell). Having healed as much as he can, Beam's carapace has air trapped in it creating buoyancy. This makes it difficult for him to dive deep, making him both unable to forage efficiently and vulnerable to further boat strikes. As a result, he has been deemed non-releasable by the U.S. Marine Fisheries Services. Mote is currently seeking a permanent home for Beam.
