On August 24th, as part of orientation for new students, the Class of 2017 visited sites around New London to lend a hand at community organizations. In the process, students got to know each other and the vibrant, diverse city they now call home.
Students volunteered at the Homeless Hospitality Center, the Winthrop Science and Math Magnet School, the Gemma Moran Labor Food Center, Ocean Beach, Fiddleheads food co-op, F.R.E.S.H. community gardens, Community Meals, Riverside Park and the Jennings Elementary School.
Community service and involvement with New London are central to life at Connecticut College. The Office of Volunteers for Community Service (OVCS) helps facilitate volunteer opportunities with more than 50 community organizations and arranges transportation for over 500 student volunteers during the academic year.
