Dr. Jerry McLaughlin begins to tell the story of his life's work at Purdue University's School of Pharmacy. He led a team of researchers over a twenty-eight year period screening 3500 plant species to find drugs for cancer. The US native paw paw tree yielded interesting molecules called acetogenins that were active against many kinds of tumor cells. In 2007 the American Society of Pharmacognosy awarded Dr. McLaughlin the Tyler Prize for his research.
