Trains hum over the freshly ground rail, which makes them sound much louder and badder than before. Spring has come early to the NS Harrisburg Line, with clear skies and temperatures in the 70's. The most notable catch is Canadian Pacific's new oil train, CP 614, on it's inaugural run. Notice, the first catch, the train is on track one, which is NOT ground. Then it passes by the Reading Station in Pottstown on fresh grinds, singing much louder than before.

The first train is a hot-shot intermodal 20K which blasts by at track speed through one of the last crossings on the Harrisburg Line to have mechanical bells. Nice standard cab leader too:

Next up is CP 614, Canadian Pacific's new 80-car oil train to Westville, NJ from the Bakkan Oil region of North Dakota. Unlike other CP trains on NS which retain their CP symbol, 614 is a conflicting number because of an NS coal train, which warrants the additional symbol of NS 64Z. This is the first run of this train, on a nice sunny morning after sitting in Binghamton, NY, for almost a week! The train is only on fresh ground rail at location two, which is LOUD, but music to the ears!

On the evening of 3/13, after doing railfanning for most of the day, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to let the sunset go unanswered, plus, track two opened up after the MoW machines parked for the day, which is why 33A and 64J are slowing to a 25 MPH speed restriction. Despite the fact that they are going slow, the wheels still glaze the freshly grinded rail and hum to the setting sun. 33A has a mix of large and yard power, including a slug set, and 64J has a nice combo of new products from EMD and GE.
