The California Central Coast is unique and beautiful because most of it is not bordered by cities and urban scenes. Small beach communities, long sandy beaches, dunes, cliffs, wilderness, trails, forests, and mountains provide a huge variety of scenes.

Pismo State Beach is approximately 7 miles of nonstop sand for walking and exploring tidepools. The climate is warm and dry. San Luis Obispo County is semi-rural and the coastline is dotted with small villages, state parks full of wilderness, and fishing ports with marinas and piers.

Activities include: swimming, surfing, sunbathing, beachwalking, kite flying at the beach, exploring tidepools, fishing, boating, wine tasting and winery tours, whalewatching, horsebackriding, hang-gliding, sightseeing, shopping, visiting the excellent restaurants, spas, and of course watching beautiful sunsets from the beach.

State Parks along the coast have wilderness trails and are full of wildlife.

The Central Coast is different from the beachscapes in southern California.

Many people are looking for escape from coastlines dominated by buldings, highways, and traffic. San Luis Obispo County's coast provides a semi-rural setting.
