On your way to White Sands, stop by the Valley of Fires Recreation Area, one of the youngest lava flows in the country, at only 5,000 years old. Next, stop at Three Rivers Petroglyphs with one of the highest concentrations of petroglyphs in the southwest. Both places offer campsites, picnic tables, restrooms and drinking water.
