60x Time-lapse movie of a last-instar larva of moth (Parasa sinica, family Limacodidae) wandering around inside an empty Kleenex box, in search of a suitable spot to make a cocoon. But this one failed to weave a silky cocoon for some unknown reason. This slug caterpillar appeared to be terribly sick or parasitized. Eventually, the tricoloured spiny caterpillar became too weak to roll over when it was laid on its back. Mid-October 2015 in Japan. The sick caterpillar died a few days later without becoming a pupa. R.I.P. Maybe they need some shelter (as attachment sites for silk) to complete cocooning.
