The Special Service Group (SSG), also known as Black Storks, because of their distinctive headgear, the unit is also known as Maroon Beret, are a special operations military unit of the Pakistan Army mandated with fourteen primary and special missions: Asymmetric warfare,Anti piracy,Special Operations,Counterproliferation, unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, Underwater demolition, direct action, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism,Hydrographic reconnaissance, Amphibious reconnaissance and Personnel recovery. The SSG is an independent commando division of Pakistan Army. It is an elite special operations force similar to the United States Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and the British Army's SAS. The SSG regularly conducts its exercises with U.S. Special Forces, PLA Special Operations Forces, and Special Air Service of United Kingdom. Official numbers are put at 7,000 men, in 10 Battalions; however the actual strength is classified.
