Some people are famous for saying something they never said, but René Descartes is famous for saying something he actually DID say: Cogito ergo sum (I think, therefore I am). These words capture the essence of Descartes rationalist philosophy and his namesake Cartesian Dualism. Descartes was a prominent natural philosopher and mathematician during the Scientific Revolution.
