This is a video of my relatives from Hiroshima shot in 1935, which has become a family treasure. This is a precious document (W8 format) shot 10 years before the atomic bombing. I feel a sense of futility since this video is the only connection I am able to have to those relatives, but I am also grateful that such a video exists to record these moments. This film was able to survive the atomic bomb because it happened to have been stored at the house of my mother's parents in Matsuyama. Everyone in this video has passed away due to the man-made calamity of atomic bombing. Although 80 years ago may sound like a very long time ago, it still feels as though it occurred just recently. I think maybe I'm becoming old.
This is the box containing the master disc of the W8 film. It was made with telecine a few years ago. The shop called Iwasaki that developed this film also evaporated in a flash since it was right under the center of the bombing.
