We're at the Palestinian Authority (PA) in East Jerusalem and meeting Adnan al-Husayni, who was appointed "Minister of Jerusalem affairs" in the PA in 2014. He's also a member of the PLO's Executive Committee since May 2018, which acts as the government of the State of Palestine. Adnan is one of the most influential advisors of Mahmoud Abbas, Head of the PA & PLO and Palestine's de-facto President.
At the start Husayni talks about his career path: How did he get where he is now? Has he spent his entire life in Jerusalem? When did he want to become a politician? What party does he belong to? Does he condemn Hamas' attacks on Israel? We talk about his job as "Minister of Jerusalem affairs": How are Palestinians doing in East Jerusalem? How many are doing fine, how many live in poverty?
Adnan explains what the PLO is and what they do. Does the PLO still want an own state? What is supposed to happen to the hundred of thousands of Jewish settlements in the Westbank? Why is the PLO against a one-state solution?
We also talk about the Palestinian elite: What is the PLO's executive committee? How is it elected? Why have there not been in elections in a long time? How many women are part of the executive committee? And how long can Mahmoud Abbas still be President? What comes next?
We recorded episode #379 in East Jerusalem on September 5, 2018.
