Managers manage, director direct, and supervisors supervise. So it will remain until we recognize that the hierarchical management model is entrenched in our vocabulary. But we all know that to lead a project today is not to assign tasks and monitor performance. It is to understand and interpret the context in which the team operates and to organically link the team’s work with what’s happening elsewhere in the organization. This talk offers a fresh take on the dichotomy of #management vs. #leadership. Andrew identified three megatrends, which might spell the end of the management era: millennials dominating the workplace, all repetitive and routine tasks getting automated, and the breakneck pace of change that renders forecasting absolute.
