Jo Swinson has been elected the new leader of the Liberal Democrats, taking over from Vince Cable's leadership. Swinson won 47,997 votes against Ed Davey's 28,021. Vince Cable formally announced he was stepping down in May with Swinson and Davey the only two candidates to put themselves forward. During her victory speech Swinson took the opportunity to make a dig at likely-PM Boris Johnson, saying that 'Britain deserves better'.
