GLOUCESTERSHIRE MUSIC TEACHER'S SONG VIDEOS FOR HUSBAND 'BRING SUNSHINE' TO LOCKED DOWN CARERS AND CARE HOME RESIDENTS, WITH PERFORMANCES FROM STUDENTS AROUND THE WORLD
" Hello Alan ... love, Caroline x "
A week ago, music teacher Caroline Lumsden started to record daily song videos in her garden shed. Each day she sent a new song to her husband of 47 years, Alan, who lives at the Old Vicarage care home in Frampton-on-Severn, Gloucestershire.
Like many people throughout the country, Caroline could no longer go to the care home to visit Alan, because of the current lockdown. So the song videos became her way of keeping their connection alive, and helping all the carers and residents at the Old Vicarage to keep their spirits up!
Caroline's neighbours started to listen in to her daily music-making, and before long the story was picked up by BBC Radio Gloucestershire and then the Times.
The first video featured the song ‘Daisy, Daisy,’, played and sung by her family of 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Caroline's son Ben edited all the videos together, for everyone at the Old Vicarage to use during their daily 'sing song' sessions!
Meanwhile Caroline, who founded the Gloucestershire Academy of Music (GAM) 40 years ago, started another track: “Bring me Sunshine”. By this time, word had spread, and everyone wanted to join in ... including not just her friends and family, but also her students and fellow teachers from the schools she works for, including Gloucester Academy, Musicland Oxford and ViolinSchool ... as well as neighbours from the local Tennis and Ping Pong Clubs in Frampton!
As videos started to arrive from Caroline's friends and students from all around the country and beyond, her nephews (composer Thomas Hewitt Jones and violinist/producer Simon, from ViolinSchool) quickly rallied round to put a proper music video together, by combining all the recordings with a studio backing track.
On Alan's behalf, Caroline would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone for bringing joy and love to the Old Vicarage!
THANK YOU and KEEP SAFE!
