On the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains lie Jasper and Banff National Parks in southwestern Alberta, Canada. Mount Robson, rising to more than 2900 meters, is the areas highest peak. The Parks are actually comprised of four separate areas: Banff, jasper, Yoho and Kootenay all managed as a single reserve and with their wide differences in elevation they provide a variety of biotopes, each with its own distinctive plant and animal communities.
Officially designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Site, the Canadian Rocky Mountains area is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past.
