We Set Sail was started in 2009 by Marné Geldebloem, as vehicle for his own stories and as an escape from the music then being played in Cape Town, South Africa. We Set Sail began by becoming a band made up of other bands, a band with no strict directions but a few hints from Marné's acoustic guitar, inviting input from every other member, with an off-the-cuff attitude and an urgency to bring all sorts of emotions to the fore under one rule: That the music be instrumental and be able to speak for itself. The songs tell stories, yet bear no words, instead conveying the emotions purely by the agreement of the instruments at play. The music is of a cinematic character, frail and delicate, but also urgent and explosive, creating a wide emotional spectrum, to which many a listener write their own words to. We Set Sail's nature is just that: that of an adventure into the unknown, setting sails with no definite port in sight, where many come and go, just like the tide's ebb and flow
