As the first anniversary of the April 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes approaches, the people of America and Kumamoto came together to honor Kumamoto’s resilience and commitment to the recovery efforts. This video was filmed in Aso City, Amakusa City, Asagiri City, and Kumamoto City, and was produced in cooperation with the Kumamoto Prefectural Government with the support of both Japanese and American residents. Additional footage was provided by Montana State University, Longfellow Elementary School, and the Mayor’s office of Bozeman, Montana (Kumamoto Prefecture’s sister state), the city of San Antonio, Texas (Kumamoto City’s sister city), and the U.S. Marine Corps VMM-265, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa. The cover of “Kumamoto Surprise” was arranged and performed by the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific.
