*Originally written in Japanese for Japan and all the victims of the disasters in 2011. Japan has always been a huge part of my life and Japanese culture, music, fighting spirit has always influenced me and is what inspired me and kept me going throughout the years towards my dreams. It was heartwrenchingly painful and traumatic to experience it all, despite being across the globe. Almost being powerless, so I couldn't help but need to do something with music. We will continue to fight and pray for recovery and those still suffering. We won't forget and we still have hope. The song of encouragement is dedicated to everyone out there fighting for the future, for dreams of better tomorrow.

    The lyrics 「

    This is our dream
    Our one desire
Take this night and turn it into day
    これから譲れない
    きっと光見つけた
    心配しないで

    明日の夢

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION

    Our hearts are trembling
    Perhaps we're crushed now
    I want to become stronger
    We're not alone

    It's not the end
Even when the future can't be seen
    Let's try our hardest together
    And always continue on

    If life is a fight,
I want to live on for you

Tomorrow's dreams will soon be fulfilled
At all times we'll keep believing
That the dawn will break soon
    Please don't worry

When you seem like crying, there's hope
Please don't forget your own voice

Let's go on the path we've decided
    Faraway in the world

    We're watching the starry skies
    Tomorrow is a new day
We're waiting for our own chance to shine
    Please don't worry

It's impossible to turn back now
The two of us will go on forward
    I don't know where

Tomorrow's dreams will soon be fulfilled
    We're watching the starry skies
    Tomorrow is a new day
    This is our dream
    Our one desire
Take this night and turn it into day
From here on in, don't surrender
    We've definitely found the light
    Please don't worry

Takatsu, the writer of contemporary literary fiction, musician and English Literature student based in Toronto, has pioneered the Japanese youth cultural “cell phone novel” phenomenon of online serialized minimalistic poetic narrative (averaging 100 words per chapter) to the English speaking world and organized the forefront of an online writing community (Textnovel) in 2008 through “Secondhand Memories” – which has won Editor’s and Reader’s Choice awards, surpassed 90k words, 50k unique views, accumulated thousands of readers, mentioned in various sources and placed as comprehension exercises in an English textbook in Japan, and is much anticipated by fans to be released in print by Sakura Publishing in late 2014.

The writer, passionate about philosophy, the human condition and the world around, currently continues to work on fiction projects of more mature depth and meaning such as “Move”, (2013, CPN, Textnovel) a sentimental journey of a struggling musician, as well as his most recent and primary piece, “Espresso Love” (2014), an ambitious dystopian magical-realism literary prose novel which satirizes and challenges the philosophy of subjective perception, socio-political system, digital landscape, capitalist mechanism and consumer culture around that has accumulated a readership of nearly 500,000, reviewed by professors, published authors and young readers alike.

Aside from writing, the author coordinates and collaborates on local events, online initiatives, multimedia projects with artists, illustrators, musicians, film directors and more. He is influenced by writers such as Haruki Murakami, Ernest Hemingway, Banana Yoshimoto, George Orwell, Don DeLillo, Franz Kafka, Raymond Carver, Cormac McCarthy and the ideas of Emerson, Mumford, Jung, Freud, Berkeley, and Marx.

“Takatsu is a fascinating writer, musician and illustrator and is at the forefront of transmedia storytelling.” – Rowena Wiseman, Author of Searching for Von Honningsbergs, Exit Stage Left, Bequest.

“Amazing how well you implement the first-person point of view… Hackneyed and cliche, some have said, but there’s just something about good writers and first person novels. You are definitely in one of them. Your voice really comes through. Some people will disagree and say, ‘Well of course. He’s writing in first person. It’s suppose to engage you in such a way.’ But I would have to say that not all first-person novels come through as clean as yours does. Simply amazing.” comments Diogenes Marx, a literary critic on Textnovel.

    On “Espresso Love“:
“Offers acute, almost painful observations of the minutiae of life, if life took place in a Murakami snow-globe.”
    – Review on IndieReader Insiders

“Like a seven course meal full of spice and illumination… One does not listen to a classical piece to get to its ending. No. It is the ride, the moment by moment…a genuine Masamune among stories.”
    – Textnovel author

“An interesting ‘vapoury’ style that seems to hover off world at times. …atmosphere and dialogue are strong…shows assurance and poise. Also very promising in suggestions. …Author’s intent to invoke/evoke mystery is very effective…haunting and strange (which is good); intelligence present on page…some sense of terror in the core here… You’re on to something different, striking.”
    – B.W. Powe, Associate Professor, Dept of English, York University and author of A Tremendous Canada of Light, A Climate Charged, Outage, The Unsaid Passing, and Marshall McLuhan and Northrop Frye: Apocalypse and Alchemy
