If you manufacture a product made from an abrasive material, you need to use a tool that resists that abrasion; otherwise you will not achieve size, finish, etc. Tool wear causes things that fail inspection or worse, do not provide customer satisfaction. Things like poor finishes, undersize holes, mismatch on contoured surfaces due to required tools change, etc. are the effect of a tool that wears prematurely. Diamond is the hardest material found in nature, and the most abrasion-resistant material found in nature. Diamond is chemically inert with most things, it is the best thermal conductor in nature, but it is also electrically non-conductive. Diamonds can be created using heat and pressure (as in nature), or heat and vacuum. The CVD process uses heat and vacuum to grow diamond crystals and as such is a cost effective way of creating diamond.
