CARLA is the musical alter ego of Carla Serrat.
CARLA gives rhythm to the beat of this personal project with capital letters, moving between analog synth-pop, trip-pop, pleasant drum’n’bass, British bass soul and suggestive electronica.
Exciting, fragile, and at the same time silvery and direct as a knife, the compositional fusion by CARLA thrives on an intense voice, choral echoes played in loop, and the evocative styles of its keyboard and synthesizers. This melodic body synchronizes with rhythms that, as opposed to the usual pre-recorded ones of this genre, are created by a meticulous drum set that acts as a structure. The organic percussion of Toni Serrat also accompany the folk song project of Joana Serrat, sister of Toni and Carla, completing the family musical triangle.
Beach House, FKA twigs, Everything But The Girl, Cocteau Twins, Jessy Lanza, and Purity Ring are some of the varied references that are present when we allow ourselves to cherish CARLA’s songs.
In the Forest is her first official video, that digs into pole dancers lifestyle.
The video has been directed by Àlex Sardà for Nanouk Films and Sones.
