"Everything That Rises Must Converge" (in reference to a short story by Flannery O'Connor) is a piece for a quarter-tone tuned guitar, max/msp, accelerometer, and dance. The dance is performed by Audrey Chau and the electric guitar is performed myself. I've used the Source Audio Hot Hand USB accelerometer to work with a max/msp patch I've made (see an earlier video I've posted for details) to change the pitch of my guitar and sustain select pitches indefinitely to create a sostenuto effect (which accumulates throughout the piece). In this performance, Audrey is wearing the accelerometer so that her choreography effects the music being performed.
This piece was a part of a honors senior thesis project I did under the supervision of Ken Ueno that involved composing two pieces and producing a concert. The concert was at the Flight Deck Theatre in Oakland on April 29th, 2015.
Big thanks to Ken Ueno for guiding and instructing me throughout the process in the composition for this piece.
