  • I said it started with James Brown. I agree with you in general.Charles Mingus said"virtuosity should be a tool for expressing a idea, not for virtuosities sake".In terms of finger playing funk rhythms are all about tiny subtractions and additions from beats.Almost like a jazz swing but much different.

  • Read Horowitz too.Just don't believe something because one man says it. The truth is sound is much more complex than how he portrays it. A tone is made up of other tones called the harmonic series. This is what makes a clarinet playing a c5 different than a tuba playing a c5. Sound is not made of pure single frequencies. Listen to a tone generater playing a sine wave. Thats about the only place in nature where you will hear a single frequencie.

  • I'm a sound designer and I can tell you the only way to make these sounds is by circuit bending. This is where you take a battery powered noise making toy like a speak and spell or a furby and purposely short circuit it. People do this.Just search circuit bent speak and spell. or bent furby to hear almost this exact sound. I'm not saying that this isn't something else but I have heard lots of this type of sound. Why It was on a cell phone I don't know.Does kind of sound like communication.

  • I've been playing for over twenty years and plyed through almost every kind of amp and once in Santa Barbara I played one of these through a SWR (R.I.P) speaker cabinet and that was the best tone i have heard. Another close one was a Ampeg preamp (simiar)through a tubeworx power amp into a bagend speaker cabinet. I miss my SWR Silverado and it looks like their going to go out of buisiness.Damn amp modeling, preamp pedals and china-Korea made cheap combos put them out of buisiness.Aguilar maybe.

How is this different from Kontakt or Absynth .Isn't variphrase technology just where you can play a sample without it changing the timing but still changing pitch.I know this thing can do much more Im just trying to understand how it's technology is similiar to Kontakt.

  • Squarepusher uses mostly synths he makes himself in Reaktor but uses a few hardware synths. tb 303,sh-101,FS1R and a V synth XT. He hates gear where you can't get into the nuts and bolts of it and get to the heart of it for deep programming. I'm thinking about getting a v synth xt (the GT is too expensive for me right now) or a Elektron box but so many guys are using those right now, they all sound like Autechre.Who Squarepusher can't stand by the way. Maybe I'll stick to software.

  • That part at the end reminded me of a book I read as a freshman composition student called Techniques of the 20th century composer by David Cope .He describes a technique where a composer writes a score then takes the only existing copy of the score and burns it in front of a audience and that is the piece.Lots of highly experimental techniques in that book. It changed my life and how I look at music.

  • Yes indeed most modern classical composers use computers to compose. I studied music composition in college and we all used Sibelius software. Many old schoolers still prefer pencil and paper or a combination of the two. There are beethovens and mozarts living.Take two of Americas most known Composers. Christopher Rouse (who doesn't use computers ) and John Adams ( who does use computers,Digital Performer to be exact).I think genres are disapearing. It's all one now. It's the music not the gear.

  • There's certainly proof plato existed.Unlike Jesus we have his writings, but I hear your point.Any one in the past without physical evidence is a sort of quasi existence, but there is tons of information that scholars have that make certain people in the past more or less likely to have really existed.Jeses there is pretty good evidence really existed, but the evidence is mostly peoples writings of their witness to jesus's birth and what not. Then Constantine re wrote his teachings. So it gets hazey.
