Every little girl wants a little baby doll to carry around and take care of. In a world where dolls with sleep eyes just wasn’t enough the Kenner Toy Company set out to manufacture more lifelike baby dolls, so in 1973 the first Baby Alive Doll was unveiled. An eating and drinking lifelike baby doll that eats, drinks, and poops. In 1991 the Kenner Toy Company was purchased by Hasbro and new features were added to the Baby Alive doll soon after. In 1992 the first talking Baby Alive doll was released, she swallowed her food automatically and she was potty trained instead of using diapers. Phrases she would say were “I have to go potty” and “All done now”. There are a few early versions of the Baby Alive- Baby All Gone and Juice & Cookies Baby Alive, they were the first variations followed by a line of newborn dolls and speaking toddler dolls. Newborn dolls include: Sip ‘N Slurp, Wets ‘N Wiggles, Pat ‘N Burp, and Sip ‘N Snooze. The speaking toddler doll line included: Baby Alive Learns to Potty, Baby Alive Baby’s New Teeth, Baby Alive Changing Time Baby, Baby Alive Real Surprises, Baby Alive Bouncing Babbles, Baby Alive Better Now Baby, Baby Alive Bye Bye Baby, Baby All Gone, and My Baby Alive. There are dolls that teethe, sing, talk, move, spit up, burp, have a moving mouth and even have special magnetic accessories that react to the magnet in her mouth to tell it when to open for food. These dolls are much more advanced than any other baby doll you will find on the market. The biggest criticism for the Baby Alive line of products is how expensive the accessories can get. You need to buy refills of food, drinks, and diapers among other things. Sometimes, okay more like you will, need to purchase replacement parts like bottles as only the included bottle works with your Baby Alive doll. Hasbro produces blonde babies, brunette babies, babies with olive skin, babies with white skin and babies with dark skin. All babies come with huge eyes that are the highlight of the dolls adorable face.
In 2002 a toy division of Hasbro introduced a line of robotic pets which they would name FurReal Friends. The lifelike animals had the same mannerisms and movements and sounds of a real pet. They are stimulated by touch, usually in the motion of “petting” the animal. It all started with a cat that the child would awaken by scratching the cat’s ears or petting it gently on his back and head. The FurReal Friends Kittens followed the Furreal Cat. The FurReal Kittens came with a bottle of milk which they loved to feed from, they would suckle and you hear sounds of the kitten eating. Soon the line exploded now offering everything from guinea pigs to cows to dinosaurs. They come in different sizes now, some even big enough to ride. They all move in some way or another to depict the lifelikeness of the real animal. Another notable popular pet that is in the FurReal family is Go Go My So Real Walkin’ Pup which was introduced to the line in 2003. Go Go’s head moves back and forth and her mouth and tail move as she is walking towards you. When you pet her head her tail actually wags. Other pets include; Cuddles My Giggly Monkey pet, Daisy the cat, Trixie the Skateboarding Pup, Whisper Moon Pet, Bouncy My Happy to See Me Pup, among many others. The FurReal friends now have webisodes, biographies, and even smartphone apps! FurReal Friends are also known as "Furreal Pets" and "For Real Pets"
