Normally when I film a parade I film it multiple times from both sides and then carefully edit it down to provide the illusion of a seamless flow. None of that here. Emily and I decided to go downtown to catch this annual parade in Half Moon Bay, CA. I grabbed a single camera, no lights, no microphones and captured it as it scrolled by.
Shooting a stream of people at night, many of whom are wearing blinking LEDs, using only existing lighting, is a guaranteed recipe for exposure nightmares. What fun! I adjusted the brightness and contrast levels for each segment to keep faces looking like faces and the light flares extreme, and threw in an occasional effect to sharpen silhouettes but otherwise spend little time working on achieving a continuous look.
