El Día de los Muertos community celebration held at El Museo Cultural, Santa Fe, New Mexico USA, Oct. 28 & Nov. 2, 2011. The event included Community altars, ofrendas, shrines, music, dancers, costume contest, art, food and prizes, with the Nov. 2nd gathering for the blessing of the altars.
On November 1st, it is believed that souls return to the Earth and are greeted with feasts, music and dancing. Instead of embracing the concept of death as Halloween does, Dia De Los Muertos is a holiday meant to celebrate the lives of passed on loved ones.
Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in many cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.
