Shara-bune Spirit Boat ～Mid-Summer Day in Nishinoshima～

Nishinoshima. It is a mysterious island located in the Sea of Japan.
It is one of the Oki Islands located 65km north-west of Shimane Peninsula. It is part of the Daisen-Oki National Park (since 1964) and a member of the Global Geoparks Network.
The island features a calm inland sea formed by a rare sea caldera. There are many sea caves along the coast, and one of the largest coastal cliffs in Japan can be seen here. Cultural and historic traditions remain strong here, and in many places you can feel something very special. The boat that is introduced in this movie clip is called "Shara-bune" which means "Spirit Boat". It is said that this festival features one of the largest spirit boats in the world. This ritual is one example of the cultural uniqueness of Oki.
