Asia’s oldest mountain biking (MTB) organized by Himalayan Adventure Sports & Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA) and Hero Cycles will be organized from 28th September to 7th October 2017.
Before the race kicks off, its commencement was done with THE RACE PROLOGUE – 1km Race on the Streets of Shimla.
This year, HASTPA introduced the interesting Prologue to the race in association with Himachal Pradesh Police, which took place on the 28th September from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. The race was a kilometer loop from and back to the Ridge.
The idea of the prologue was to engage as much as possible with the local population to encourage them to take up cycling. With Shimla being given the status of a smart city, cycling has to be an integral part of the way we commute. The prologue will help inspire a lot of people to take up cycling as an active lifestyle and mode of transport. This will further help Shimla move towards a greener city with a focus on preserving environment and health.
Amidst continuous rain showers, all the participants gathered for a friendly race at the Ridge, encouraging the locals to take up mountain biking as a sport. National, international riders came together as one before they take up Asia's premier mountain biking challenge, from Shimla to Dharamshala!
The prologue began with the recitation of the National Song by the girls from Shimla Nursing College. The event was graced by the Honb'l Mayor of Shimla, Ms. Kususm Sadret, the first BJP Woman Mayor. She flagged off four riders, including Michael Federich, Akash Sherpa and Akshit Sherpa. The chief guest to the race was Director General of Police, Govt. Of Himachal Pradesh, Somesh Goyal, although he was unable to come due to personal reasons.
